RedArch DUO, featuring oboist and researcher Christopher Redgate and composer and electronic music performer Paul Archbold, brings together the acoustic instrument and the possibilities of multichannel electronics.
Their collaboration stems from a shared interest in exploring new sonic languages. On the one hand, Redgate’s research expands the possibilities of the oboe through extended techniques and new approaches to performance. On the other, Archbold brings his experience as a composer and live electronics artist, creating a space in which the instrument’s sound can expand, transform and take on new dimensions.
Rather than simply combining oboe and electronics, RedArch DUO establishes a dialogue between two practices closely connected to research and contemporary creation. The project challenges the limits of the acoustic instrument and explores what can happen when it interacts with an electronic and spatial environment.
