Xabier Casal Ares comes to ME_MMIX with a performance exploring the possibilities of the saxophone in dialogue with electronics. Specialising in classical and contemporary musical languages, Casal Ares uses the acoustic instrument as a starting point to enter a territory where sound can expand, transform and take on new dimensions.
His experience as a performer, particularly in contemporary music, and his work with the Fukio Quartet have allowed him to explore the expressive possibilities of the saxophone beyond the traditional repertoire. In this performance, electronics open up a space for investigating new relationships between instrument and sound, between the acoustic and the processed.
An approach to contemporary music through sound research and performance, in which the saxophone becomes a starting point for discovering new ways of listening to and understanding the instrument.
