S·A·N·G presents an intervention conceived especially for ME_MMIX, delving into Manuel de Falla’s repertoire to explore it through the sonic universe of Noemí Garcies and Rafael Adrover. Melody, harmony and words thus become material for experimentation and enter into dialogue with S·A·N·G’s own language.
The proposal offers a short journey between Falla and the memory of popular and traditional music: materials that change form, melodies that are stripped back and reconstructed, and music that, more than a century later, once again becomes living material.
On this occasion, the focus is also placed on a lesser-known connection: Manuel de Falla’s relationship with Mallorca. The composer maintained a close friendship with the Mallorcan musician and musicologist Joan Maria Thomàs, who left a record of this relationship and of the composer’s stays on the island in Manuel de Falla en la isla (1947).
