The music festival season is about to come to an end, but on the horizon new proposals are emerging that could be added to the calendar in the near future. From Mallorca, on October 4, the ME_MMIX project will land on the island, with its main program taking place in Palma in mid-November.
This is an alternative and avant-garde cultural event that, for the first time, has organized a preliminary cycle outside its original territory. The place chosen in Menorca is the Illa del Rei, thanks to the collaboration with the Hauser & Wirth gallery, featuring a performance by the Mallorcan group Geometrical Sardine, who will present their second album Last Flight Before Extinction (Bubota Música, 2025).
Throughout the seven years of its trajectory, which it will celebrate this autumn, ME_MMIX has refined a festival format that combines electronic music, crossovers, hybrid projects, installations, and music documentary cinema, while also building professional networks in the world of contemporary creation. Its director, Mateu Malondra, explains that the decision to diversify venues aims to advance the challenge of expanding their proposal.
“Our intention is to be a platform where we can create an exchange between musicians from the Islands and also from abroad. To create a circuit that generates new audiences and brings them closer to unconventional languages,” he says.
The October 4th event has been conceived as a test for something “more ambitious in the future,” admits the festival director, who reveals that the idea being considered is “to hold a ME_MMIX Menorca in the spring of the 2026 season.” Malondra emphasizes that “Menorca has great musical talent and a very good audience. Cultivated and close, who enjoy tradition but are also passionate about innovation.”
The festival’s first contact with Menorca will be through the Mallorcan group Geometrical Sardine, an alternative jazz trio visiting the Illa del Rei to present their second album.
The band, which includes Joan Roca (bassist of Antònia Font), “has a wide creative range and a strong experimental component, exploring new sonorities with an imaginary that continues to grow and evolve since Minialien, their debut album,” the festival’s organizers advance.
