The Austrian photographer and filmmaker Marion Kalter opens the electronic music festival ME_MMIX. This afternoon she will screen at Casal Balaguer the documentary film she has made about the French composer Pierre Boulez, whom she photographed for decades. “The film Notations is based on a four-hour conversation with Boulez, commenting on the photographs that accompanied him throughout his life,” Kalter explains. A network of memories brought back on the centenary of the composer’s birth.
Kalter, who has photographed cultural and philosophical figures such as Francis Bacon, Jacques Derrida and Susan Sontag, is visiting Mallorca for the first time, with her camera hanging from her neck and an attentive gaze. She is intrigued by the soundscape of this festival, which is also a space for thought and creation: “The aim of the festival is for the participating artists to have a flexible attitude, open to collaborating with others,” explains the festival’s director, Mateu Malondra.
Ten venues, ten days, and around one hundred artists such as Rafel Caldentey, Geometrical Sardine, Alter Face and Marta Verde. Experimental live music that does not shy away from artistic provocation. “Perhaps someone will leave upset after seeing a performance, but they will never feel they have wasted their time,” Malondra concludes.
