Sòl Pell Paret is a performative creation proposal to inhabit and sonify a unique space that is simultaneously scenic and contemplative: a place of action and reception of the work. The piece is based on listening as a tool for artistic exploration and understands the space and its specific characteristics as a kind of sound organism, where audience and artist coexist. Sòl: the ground we walk on, the foundation of every structure; Pell: the surface of contact to feel the space, to feel the sound; Paret: the context that surrounds and limits us, making us visible and hiding us. The work questions how these three elements relate, directing attention to the performative body and its surrounding spatial, acoustic, and relational environment.

The proposal is conceived as a cumulative sound composition/action with about 50 small sound devices arranged in the space during the development of the piece (the devices are self-made or self-programmed). It will start on the ground, below, where the act of walking also originates. This movement will serve to progressively modify the stage space, shaping it through distance, proximity, and remoteness with the rest of the attendees and sound elements. Sòl Pell Paret intends for every presence to be part of the performative act, understanding the interrelation of all parts as a creative potential.

The walls or vertical planes of the room place us in a specific location, and sound places us in a time. Every surface has acoustic properties that directly influence the sound and its projection. During the action, the exploration of these properties will be carried out in the material itself, making the walls an extension and amplification of the sound of the small devices. The room will become a large membrane that vibrates and resonates, both visible and audible.

Pell is the threshold between the identification of the exterior and interior perception. It functions both as an intermediary of the inhabited surfaces and as a sensitive tool for listening. Sòl Pell Paret listens through touch and vibration, seeking other ways to relate to space and stage. Understanding listening as a gesture that traverses the entire body, the skin becomes a unifying metaphor for all parts. Sòl, Pell, and Paret become a single coordinated entity through listening.

Materials/Instruments Created

The sound devices to be used are designed from reuse and recycling. On one hand, we have collected old mobile phones, considered technological waste, to program and use as sound sources within an interconnected network of elements. On the other hand, small striking motors (reused, DIY) will be used to make the surfaces of the space vibrate. The interrelation of all these sound devices in the space and on its surfaces will result in an immersive and changing sound scene in which all parts intervene actively and/or passively.
