Everything Sounds: Family Sound Creation Workshops

Three-day course and creative presentation of the compositions

  • First day: 16/11/2025 time: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Welcome and project introduction
  • Second day: 18/11/2025 time: 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Sound creativity and composition
  • Third day: 19/11/2025 time: 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Creation and presentation of results

This workshop series offers children and families a creative and participatory sound experience that stimulates listening, play and collective creation through recycled materials, field recordings, voice and imagination.

Each session is structured independently, allowing anyone to join in any week. Those who attend several sessions will be able to deepen their personal and group work.

The workshops draw inspiration from methodologies in sound art, active pedagogy and contemporary artistic mediation.

Through simple yet powerful dynamics, the workshop transforms the everyday into something extraordinary. Recording the creak of a chair, building an instrument with a box, listening in silence… all become tools to spark curiosity and create together.

Duration: 2 hours per session
For: Children aged 8+ with adult companions
Teacher: Carlos Anguera Jover (multidisciplinary artist, academic and educator)
Format: Free of charge, in-person

Session contents (rotating format):

1. Listening to create: sound maps, listening walks, favorite sounds 2. DIY instrument building: shaker, balloon drum, recycled strings 3. Recording the world: basic field recording techniques 4. The voice as sound: vocal play, whispers, wordless narration 5. Sound as story: guided improvisation 6. Participatory micro-concert: group sound jam 7. Collective mini-installation: listening corner at the Casal 8. Closing and public listening: open sharing for families

Each session will include listening exercises, construction, play, recording and a reflective closing.

Objectives:

– Develop critical and sensitive listening to the environment. – Explore sound as a creative and narrative material. – Foster intergenerational bonds through play and collaboration. – Bring contemporary culture closer to family audiences in an accessible way. – Offer a meaningful artistic experience within the Casal’s program.

Materials provided by the workshop leader:

The workshop will include a selection of materials and tools provided by the artist, allowing all activities to be carried out without families needing to bring external equipment. These include: – Recycled elements and everyday sound objects – Materials for DIY instrument building (rubber bands, jars, balloons, boxes, rice…) – Portable sound recorder – Speakers for sound playback – Computer with Ableton Live – Audio interface – Reference headphones for demonstrations – Printed visual resources (templates, listening maps, inspiring examples)

Families only need to bring curiosity, the desire to play with sound and, if they wish, their own headphones or mobile phones with a recorder.

Project outlook:

The project may be documented with photographs (with prior permission) and become part of the Casal’s archive. A collective sound piece or mini-exhibition of results could also be developed.
