Josep Maria Llompart (Palma de Mallorca, 1925–2013)
Law graduate. He was deputy editor of Papeles de Son Armadans, literary advisor to Editorial Moll, and chief editor of the magazine Lluc. He served as president of the Obra Cultural Balear and the Association of Writers in the Catalan Language. He stood out for his critical work and studies on literature.
His poetic work brought a renewing tone to the Mallorcan School, the starting point of his Poemes de Mondragó; later, he embraced a form of historical realism with ironic nuances, and evolved toward experimentation and formalism with works such as Mandràgola, which won the Serra d’Or Critics Prize (1981), and La capella dels dolors i altres poemes, awarded the Lletra d’Or (1982). He also published essays, such as the collection Països Catalans i altres reflexions. He received the Madrid National Critics Award (1981), the Catalan Letters Honorary Award (1982), and the Cross of St. George from the Government of Catalonia (1982).
